Aircraft height-keeping performance monitoring is a quality check on the engineering work and approval process associated with the safety of RVSM operations.

Yes, all operators are required to participate in the regional monitoring program as per ICAO Annex 6 part 1. This participation usually means an operator will need to monitor individual aircraft of each type that they operate based on the Minimum Monitoring Requirement time table (ICAO/RMA MMR table).

Monitoring can take place any time after the engineering upgrade work for RVSM compliance is completed. At this point, the aircraft will be airworthiness approved for RVSM.

Aircraft can be monitored for RVSM by scheduling an E2GMU flight or by overflying a ground-based monitoring station. Aircraft not equipped with a Mode S transponder must complete an E2GMU monitoring flight.

Typically, a monitoring flight can be scheduled after contacting MIDRMA based on the available monitoring slot.

The MIDRMA Engineering Team will temporarily set up the E2GMU in your aircraft (this takes approximately 15 minutes prior to taxi) and will need to collect approximately 30 minutes of data at level flight within RVSM airspace (FL290-410).

The basic requirements to conduct a monitoring flight are:

30 minutes of level flight at FL290-410 inclusive

Aircraft must have unobstructed window access (cabin or flight deck) for E2GMU GPS antenna mounting. 1 to 2 GPS Antennas are temporarily mounted on the inside of window(s) with suction cups.

Pre-flight access to cabin to setup E2GMU and obtain Satellite Signal(approximately 15 minutes prior to taxi to set up equipment)

Limited access to Aircraft's cockpit by MIDRMA Team for record data from the Altimeters and FMS

MIDRMA completes the initial processing of the data collected during a monitoring flight and ASE result calculations within two (2) weeks. Upon completion of the final ASE results, MIDRMA will provide the results of the monitoring flight to the Operator and operator’s State Authority.
